AMCI 3102 Servo/Stepper Motion Controller For 1762 MicroLogix I/O

allen-bradley encompass partner
AMCI Model: #3100 Series

AMCI 3100 series two-axis motion control modules unleash the power of your 1762 MicroLogix I/O. Equipping your MicroLogix 1100, 1200, of 1400 PLC with powerful multi-axis motion control is now possible and easy!

AMCI's 3100 series motion modules incorporate specialized commands, including linear & circular interpolation, for all of your motion needs. Encoder feedback for move verification is also available. Plus, these powerful motion controllers are easily programmed, configured, and commissioned using Allen-Bradley's popular RSLogix 500 software. Programmed directly from the output registers, these modules offer a wide range of motion commands, including absolute, relative, registration, and blend moves that can be configured to meet the most exacting requirements. Plus, AMCI's 3100 series motion modules can be used with servos only, steppers only, or a mix of servos and steppers...you choose!

AMCI's 3100 series two-axis motion control modules are available in two versions: 3102 (X-Y motion control) & 3102i (X-Y motion control + interpolation).

*** PLEASE NOTE*** The 3102 & 3102i modules require either an AMCI MS-40 module connector or IM-3R accessory kit for system wiring.

AMCI 3102:
AMCI's 3102 PLC module is a 2-axis motion controller for Rockwell Automation's 1762 MicroLogix I/O, including the 1100, 1200, and 1400. The 3102 module provides encoder feedback and can control servo drives with step/direction input or stepper drives depending on your requirements. And the 3102 module offers a wide range of motion commands including jog, home, and point-to-point control. Popular applications for this motion controller include assembly lines, conveyor control, in-process gauging, valve control, and much more.

AMCI 3102i:
AMCI's 3102i was developed for applications requiring more sophisticated motion control, specifically linear and circular interpolation. This high performance module is functionally equivalent to AMCI's 3102 controller, however, its ability to reach specific target positions and output contoured motion profiles simplifies manufacturing complexities. Popular applications for AMCI's 3102i interpolated motion controller include high speed assembly, water jet cutting, storage and sorting, laser trimming, needle inspection systems, and much more.

AMCI 3102 vs. MicroLogix PTOs

AMCI's 3102 motion modules boasts several advantages over the onboard PTO (pulse train output) found on the 1762 MicroLogix I/O. Richer programming capabilities such as encoder following and interpolation top the list, however, several other examples include:

CONNECTING ULTRA1500 & ULTRA3000 Servo Drives:

AMCI 3102: The AMCI 3102 motion modules output either a 5Vdc or 24Vdc control signal, enabling you to interface directly with Allen-Bradley's Ultra1500 and/or Ultra3000 servo drives (configured to accept step/direction inputs). Plus, the 3102 module's connection to AB Ultra drives won't compromise reliability or performance!

MLX PTOs: The MicroLogix PTO is a 24 Vdc pulse train, whereas the Ultra1500 & Ultra3000 only accept a 5 Vdc control signal input. The solution requires that a step resistor/Zener diode circuit must be added, complicating installation.

CONTROLLING ULTRA1500 & ULTRA3000 Servo Drives:

AMCI 3102: The AMCI 3102 motion modules outputs a maximum 1MHz signal frequency that enables significantly greater control resolution through the AB Ultra drives, delivering smoother and more precise motor performance.

MLX PTOs: The MicroLogix PTO frequency is limited to 20kHz, requiring you to scale down the resolution of the Ultra1500 & Ultra3000.

BLENDED MOVES:

AMCI 3102: The AMCI 3102 motion modules can execute blended moves easily using a single command. You simply program the desired motion and the blended move is executed without having to stop between segments.

MLX PTOs: The MicroLogix PTOs cannot execute blended motion profiles continously, requiring the user to "start --> stop --> restart" the different moves in the desired sequence.

AMCI 3102 Servo/Stepper Motion Controller Capabilities:

JOG OPERATION HOLD OPERATION

Jog Operation:
At START, the JOG operation begins. The machine decelerates to STOP when the JOG command is disabled.

The Jog Speed can be changed on the fly.

Hold Operation:
If a Hold Command is issued, or the External Input becomes active, during a positioning operation, the machine will decelerate and stop
immediately (x').

HOME USING BACKPLANE PROXIMITY BIT REGISTRATION

Home Using BackPlane Proximity Bit:
The machine moves at Programmed Speed toward the home point. When the Backplane Proximity bit is triggered by the PLC program, the axis decelerates and searches for the Home Input at the Starting Speed.

Registration:
At START, the machine moves at the Programmed Speed. When the External Input becomes active, the machine moves the specified Registration Distance and stops.

ABSOLUTE MOVE TO ZERO JOGGING / CHANGING SPEED ON THE FLY

Absolute Move To Zero:
The machine returns at the programmed speed to the electrical zero point.

Jogging / Changing Speed On The Fly

ONE-SPEED POSITIONING LINEAR INERPOLATION (3102i version)

One-speed Positioning:
The axis is positioned at the specified programmed speed. Two independent axes are available for the AMCI 3102 & 3102i.

Linear Interpolation (3102i version):
The machine moves to a specified target position at a specified vector speed.

2-SEGMENT BLEND CIRCULAR INTERPOLATION (3102i version)

2-Segment Blend:
At START, the machine moves to position, X1, at Speed (1), then moves to position, X2, at Speed (2).

Circular Interpolation:
The machine moves to a specified target position at a specified speed.

BLEND MOVE

Blend Move:
At START, the machine moves consecutively to positions (P1/P2/P3) at the respective operation speeds (V1/V2/V3) without stopping. Blend Moves with between two and Sixteen Segments can be programmed.
