DuraCoder Competes as World's Toughest Rotary Shaft Encoder in a 2.5" Size Package

Terryville, CT - September 29, 2004 – Advanced Micro Controls Inc has successfully engineered a line of rotary shaft encoders possessing unmatched durability. Under the DuraCoder nameplate, this family of rotary shaft encoders incorporates resolver sensor technology and integrated circuitry, enabling AMCI to claim DuraCoder as the World's Toughest Rotary Shaft Encoder in a 2.5" size package.

AMCI, a Connecticut based industrial controls company, has described their DuraCoder line as "The World's Toughest Rotary Shaft Encoders in a size 2.5" package". AMCI's exclusive DuraCoder design incorporates resolver sensor technology and integrated circuitry, to deliver one of the most durable and cost effective rotary shaft encoders on the market today.

AMCI DuraCoders are offered in four different types: incremental digital, absolute digital, absolute analog, and DeviceNet ready. Using integrated circuitry, each DuraCoder type is capable of producing virtually every resolution output configuration required in an automation environment. Designed around an industry standard 2.5" size package, the DuraCoder is manufactured using a cast aluminum housing, stainless steel shafts, and either a sealed bearing (IP 64 rated) or sealed shaft (IP 67 rated).

Featuring an integrated NEMA 4 housing, the AMCI DuraCoder leverages a brushless resolver sensor. Absolute over a single turn, the resolver was originally developed for military applications and has benefited from more than 50 years of continuous use and development.

AMCI recognized the benefits of the resolver, designed for military applications, and incorporated this rotary position sensing technology into the DuraCoder's design. "Through superior engineering, AMCI has combined the time tested reliability of a resolver with advanced electronics, enabling accurate rotary position feedback in virtually any application. No matter how hot, humid, dusty, oily, or mechanically demanding the environment, DuraCoder is ready" stated Eugene Radoykov, an AMCI engineer.

Machine builders and system integrators praise the DuraCoder family for its field programmability, enabling customized output resolution configurations tailored to the application at hand. This groundbreaking flexibility is convenient and cost effective since stocking inventory is reduced. One field programmable DuraCoder eliminates the need for keeping several different rotary shaft encoders on the shelf, historically necessary to ensure an availability of different output resolutions.

DuraCoder is an industrial grade rotary shaft encoder, but attractive pricing on these units have drawn interest from customers beyond AMCI's target market. "Lots of people look to DuraCoder when replacing their light-to-medium duty rotary encoders. Although we specialize in heavy-duty applications, we can offer them a competitively priced DuraCoder at about the same cost as less reliable units, susceptible to breakage or failure" explained Matt Tellier, AMCI Sales representative.
